Message from the Director
Welcome to the Center for Population Economics.
We hope this website will be a valuable resource for researchers and trainees in any
field, and that it will serve to facilitate use of our data. This site contains information about our main projects,
descriptions of our Center, and links to related web resources. Please visit our
interactive
data archive, which guides users in creating and downloading custom subsets of the Union Army
life-cycle and other datasets. You will also find listed there our citation and use page, which provides
instructions on citing the CPE when using our data.
The work of the CPE is funded primarily by the National Institute
on Aging of the National Institutes of Health under program project
grant number P01 AG10120.
Some of our more recent accomplishments in data distribution include:
- On-line merging of data from all three Union Army Life-Cycle
datasets into seamless custom extracts.

page, with the latest advances in data creation and cleaning.
- Capability to create custom datasets in a wider variety
of data formats, including Stata, SPSS, Excel, and ASCII.
