List of Companies in Union Army Sample
The companies in the sample were randomly selected from the over
20,000 Union Army companies which participated in the Civil War. Each
company is identified by an identification code consisting of Company
Letter, Regiment Number, and State Code. For example, B-Company of
the Ninth Delaware Regiment has an identification code of b009de.
Nb: Companies which formed part of the pilot sample for the Union
Army project, also known as the 'Twenty-company Sample,' are marked with an
asterisk (*) after their name. 30 companies from Indiana and Wisconsin
regiments were not collected, even though they were chosen as part of the
original 333-company primary sample. These companies are marked with an
exclamation point (!).
